Every percentage question, one tool

Three of the most common percentage problems, solved live as you type: finding a percentage of a number, figuring out what percent one number is of another, and calculating the percentage increase or decrease between two values.

The formulas

  • X% of Y = (X ÷ 100) × Y
  • A is what % of B = (A ÷ B) × 100
  • Percent change = ((new − old) ÷ old) × 100

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate a percentage of a number?

Multiply the number by the percentage divided by 100. For example, 15% of 200 is 200 × 0.15 = 30.

How do I find the percentage change between two numbers?

Subtract the old value from the new value, divide by the old value, and multiply by 100. A negative result means a decrease.

How do I work out what percent one number is of another?

Divide the first number by the second and multiply by 100. For example, 30 out of 120 is (30 ÷ 120) × 100 = 25%.
