GPA Calculator
Free GPA calculator. Add your courses, grades, and credit hours to calculate your weighted or unweighted grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
How GPA is calculated
Each letter grade maps to a point value on a 4.0 scale (A = 4.0, B = 3.0, and so on). Your GPA is the average of those points weighted by credit hoursβ a 4-credit class counts more than a 1-credit class. Multiply each gradeβs points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits.
Weighted vs unweighted
This is an unweighted GPA. Some high schools use a weighted scale that gives honors or AP classes extra points (e.g. an A in AP = 5.0). To approximate that, enter the boosted value via a higher-credit class or check your schoolβs specific policy.
Frequently asked questions
How is GPA calculated?β
Each grade is worth a point value (A = 4.0, B = 3.0, and so on), weighted by the course's credit hours. GPA is the total points divided by total credits.
What's the difference between weighted and unweighted GPA?β
Unweighted GPA caps at 4.0; weighted GPA gives extra points for honors or AP classes (an A in AP might count as 5.0). This tool calculates unweighted GPA.
What is a good GPA?β
A 3.0 is solid, 3.5+ is strong, and 3.7+ is typically considered excellent. Requirements vary by school and program.
